As you’re in the process of growing that precious life inside of you, your hormones are in complete turmoil! Hair is appearing in places that it never before, such as your belly and even your face! 

You will also find that it has its advantages, your #hairgoals will now have been met! Luscious locks are plenty because those hormones delay the process of shedding hair. But this of course can have an adverse effect on the rest of your body. 

This won’t last forever! Once you’ve had baby then your hormones will start to turn back to normal, although this can take up to a year. 

With your growing baby bump and the increasing hair growth, it can be hard to reach your intimate area and laser treatment may be what you are considering. But is this safe for you and baby?

The truth is, there isn’t enough research to prove whether or not it’s safe to undergo laser hair removal treatment during pregnancy. Medical experts would advise avoiding laser treatment as there is just not enough evidence to prove that it is safe. Therefore we would advise you to seek alternative methods for your hair removal, such as waxing, shaving or threading. Your body is undergoing so many different changes in pregnancy so you just don’t know how your body would react to the treatment. Not only does your skin become more sensitive during pregnancy but hyperpigmentation (a condition that causes a darkening of your skin), is quite common during pregnancy. Laser treatment is more effective when there is a contrast between your skin tone and your hair colour, so if you are experiencing hyperpigmentation, laser treatment would not be as effective anyway.

Of course under normal circumstances, when you’re not pregnant, laser hair removal treatment is completely safe, so you don’t have to wait too much longer to get your laser treatment fix. You may want to consider waiting a little longer though if you have to have a c-section or episiotomy, as you could be at risk of infection.
