Laser hair removal is effective in most cases however there are some situations that it doesn’t work as well.
Darker the hair, the better the result.
If your hair is really blonde or white you will not get the best results. This is because the darker the hair the better the result. Therefore, laser hair removal is not recommended for people with very light hair. You may be able to consider electrolysis.
How does it work?
Laser hair removal works by sending a laser light into the skin which is attracted to the pigment (colour) in the hair. The light is then absorbed by the pigment. The light energy turns into heat energy and this destroys the hair by heating up the hair follicle. The darker the hair, the more heat energy is produced and this means it is much more effective at destroying the hair.
How many sessions?
Most clients of mine require 6-10 sessions of laser hair removal but you will normally see a really good result by session 6!
Men however generally need closer to ten sessions. This is because men naturally produce more of the hormone testosterone which is responsible for hair growth.
This is also similar for people living with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). These women grow more hair and unfortunately this isn’t on their head! Women with PCOS generally grow hair on their face and sometimes even on their chest! The hair is often dark and coarse and really tricky to get rid of.
Laser and dark skin
You may have heard that you can’t have laser if you have dark skin. This is no longer true and the laser at The Laser Lounge Media City is completely safe for all skin and hair types! It is actually IPL (intense pulsed light) that isn’t safe for dark skin. Read more about the difference here.
Electrolysis used to be the only real long-lasting method of hair removal. Laser hair removal is a fantastic alternative for most people as it offers a 90 to 95% permanent hair reduction!
If you are still on the fence as to whether laser hair removal will work for you then why not book in for a consultation?
