Do I need multiple sessions of laser hair removal? Or is 1 session enough?
Does laser hair removal feel like a massive commitment?
Can’t be bothered getting involved?
Let me explain why you need more than one session of laser hair removal and why you’ll never regret getting started.
Ever been for a Hollywood wax and feel like 3 days later the hair has grown back? Don’t worry it’s nothing to do with the therapist, she still did a stellar job. Hair growth cycles are to blame!Â
Hair Growth Cycle Stages
There are three stages of hair growth and this is VERY important when it comes to long lasting hair removal.Â
- Anagen- This is the growth stage of the hair where the root of the hair is dividing rapidly and therefore lengthening the hair. Hairs are in the anagen stage for anywhere between a few weeks and 10 years, this is completely dependent on the individual and where the hairs are growing.Â
- Catagen- This is the transition stage and it signals the end of the growth stage. In this stage the hair turns into what we call a club hair. This is basically when the blood supply is cut off to the hair and a couple of weeks later the hair enters the next stage.
- Telogen- This is the resting stage. The hair is just sitting in the skin waiting to fall out.Â
Laser hair removal at our Manchester clinic, Cypress Quay uses a triple wavelength laser to combat all different types of hairs.
BUT hairs are only successfully destroyed if the hair is in the anagen phase and in active growth.Â
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
It’s pretty much impossible to know what stage a hair is in so unfortunately it is pot luck. For this reason most people need between 6-10 sessions of laser hair removal to get flawless results. These sessions are spaced 4-8 week apart. This is to make sure that all hairs are in the anagen phase at least once.
The more hairs that are in the anagen phase the more hairs can be treated at the appointment. That’s why we always recommend you wait at least 3 weeks after your last wax to start treatment but that doesn’t mean you can’t have your consultation in the meantime so that you are ready to go as soon as the three weeks wait is up.Â
