Living with acne and breakouts can be awful, but it doesn’t have to be?

sick of acne getting you down?

Acne, often seen as just a skin issue, can actually really bring you down emotionally. Those stubborn blemishes on your face, neck, or back can make you feel less confident and even embarrassed.

They seem to stick around forever, and it’s tough to feel good about yourself when they’re front and centre. It’s an ongoing battle that can really get you down, reminding us all that our self-esteem is closely tied to how we look on the outside.

It doesn’t have to be this way and although it may seem like an investment, it may only be a few simple switches in your lifestyle and skin routine to see real results.

Types of acne

Blackheads

A blackhead or open comedone, is a type of acne that forms when a hair follicle or pore on the skin becomes clogged with excess sebum (oil), dead skin cells, and other debris.

Blackheads typically appear as small, dark or black dots on the skin and are commonly found on the face, particularly in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), but they can also occur on other areas of the body.

Whiteheads

A whitehead or closed comedone, is a type of acne blemish that develops when the skin pores becomes obstructed. Like blackheads, this is caused by a mixture of sebum and dead skin cells. They are slightly different because whiteheads remain sealed beneath the skin’s surface.

Consequently, whiteheads manifest as small, pale or flesh-coloured bumps on the skin. While whiteheads can appear anywhere on the body, they are most commonly found on the face, particularly in regions rich in oil glands like the forehead, nose, and chin.

Papules

In contrast to blackheads and whiteheads, papules are often red and swollen and have no pus inside.

They are caused by a build up of skin debris but a little deeper in the skin.

As much as we want to, they are “unsqueezeable” and excessive squeezing of the area can cause scarring and bruising.

Pustule

Pustules are similiar to papules but tend to be filled with pus and although tempting, squeezing and picking of the pustules should be avoid to avoid skin damage and spreading infection.

Pustules can be moderate to severe and can be treated with topical treatment like professional skincare but in more severe cases you may need to see your GP.

Nodules

A nodule is a type of skin problem characterised by a solid, round or oval-shaped lump that is typically larger than a papule but deeper within the skin.

These lumps can vary in size, ranging from a few millimeters to several centimeters in diameter. Nodules can develop on various parts of the body and can be associated with a range of medical conditions.

Sarah

I’ve had both laser hair removal and, more recently, fat freezing. I would recommend both treatments to anyone. Always a warm, friendly welcome, and the results are amazing.

Rebecca

Very friendly and make you feel completely comfortable. It’s the best thing I’ve ever decided to do for my self-esteem!

Ben

I'm super happy with my results from having fat-freezing done on my love handles. I’ve lost a few inches, and I'm chuffed to bits.
