You may already know that laser hair removal doesn’t work on white or blonde hair. But, why doesn’t it work I hear you say?
It’s one of the most common questions I hear at consultation or when I get an enquiry. It’s for reasons like this that it is so important that you have a consultation and patch test.Â
Laser hair removal works by being absorbed by the melanin or pigment (colour) in the hair. When this happens the light energy is converted into heat energy. In turn, the heat energy destroys the little tube shaped sacs called the hair follicles and when this happens it slows down or stops the growth of future hairs.Â
If the hair has no melanin, whether this be white, grey, blonde or red the laser cannot effectively destroy the hair. Sometimes hairs have just enough melanin to be successfully treated so if your hair is fair it is alway worth coming for a consultation to discuss it.
If you aren’t suitable for laser hair removal there is another option.Â
Electrolysis!
It has been around for yonks and it is actually the only permanent method of hair removal. It works by the therapist inserting a very fine probe down through the natural skin opening. They will then pass a current down into the hair follicle and this uses a treatment called thermolysis to damage the growth centre of the hair. The hair is then removed from the skin using tweezers.
If the hair is caught in its active growth stage it will be gone for good. Woohoo!
So there is something you can do… you don’t need to suffer with unsightly hair for a minute more.
What’s even better is that we do both laser hair removal and electrolysis hair removal right here at The Laser Lounge Media City slap bang in the middle on Salford Quays. We are just a 5 minutes drive out of the city centre and there is ample free parking.
There has never been a better time to pop down for a consultation.
I hope to see you soon.
Lucie 🙂
